Theme 2 - ARC Training Centre in Predictive Breeding

Using artificial intelligence to turn big data into knowledge

Artificial intelligence.

Theme 2 aims to build capacity and develop new methodologies in the application of AI to large breeding datasets for extraction of trait knowledge and enhanced parental selection.

The focus will be on using AI in high throughput phenotyping, and on using AI to optimise crossing paths in breeding programs.

Objectives:

Develop advanced deep learning techniques for processing high-throughput phenotyping data into trait knowledge

Create explainable machine learning approaches for improved parental selection and crossing design

Train students and industry in the fundamentals of machine learning and its application to breeding

Theme 2 example projects

project

AI parent selection: sensory and agronomic traits in strawberry

project

AI-guided prediction of genomic breeding values for yield and vigour in macadamia

project

ML sensor-phenotypes: feed and emissions in dairy, beef and sheep
